Mais récemment, son contrat comme médiateur sportif n’a pas été renouvelé, sous prétexte d’un manque d’impartialité, parce qu’il avait envoyé des lettres ouvertes à la cdpq pour leur demander de se désinvestir d’israël. A conversation with Paul Fauteux, a lawyer and advocate specializing in International Law. Paul is also a former diplomat and has served as Director General in several federal departments, including Environment Canada and Indigenous and Northern Affairs.

Paul shares a bizarre and rather troubling story about an incident that he experienced recently. His position as a sport mediator was not renewed citing “lack of impartiality” for sending two open letters to the CDPQ, urging them to divest from Israel.

Joining me today is Yara Shoufani from PYM to talk about the Vote Palestine initiative and platform.

The Canadian federal election has officially been announced last Sunday, marking a crucial moment for voters who care about justice and human rights. This election carries particular significance in light of Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza and Canada’s lack of a clear and principled stance since its outbreak. From delaying its call for a ceasefire to suspending funding to UNRWA based on unproven allegations, Canada’s actions have repeatedly failed Palestinians. Additionally, while the government claims to have halted arms exports to Israel, it continues to indirectly supply weapons through U.S. loopholes.

With this in mind, Palestinian organizers in Canada have mobilized to ensure that Palestine is a key election issue.

As Israel resumes its bombardment of Gaza following the collapse of the ceasefire and initial attacks relying solely on air strikes, this makes it all the more urgent to understand how the F-35s is actively used to commit these crimes.

My guest today is Kelsey Gallagher from Project Ploughshares, a think tank that specialises in conflict zones and human rights abuses as well as broader canadian export patrol policy and transparency on arms transfers. We talk about the latest global campaign with more than 230 organizations urging F-35 partners to stop arming Israel.

To help us understand APR, its definitions, implication, importance of connection to the Nakba and how it evolved after Oct 7 I am joined by lawyer Dania Majid, co-founder and president of the Arab Canadian Lawyers Association, best known for defining APR in her 2022 publication Anti-Palestinian Racism: Naming, Framing, and Manifestations. She is also the artistic director of the Toronto Palestinian Film Festival.

Despite an unprecedented spike in Anti-Palestinian Racism (APR) in Canada since the start of the genocide in Gaza on October 7 (details discussed in the Anti-Palestinian Racism in Canada 2023 Annual Report), APR has faced significant push back from the Canadian government. Nearly every mainstream media outlet has played a role in perpetuating APR, whether through biased coverage of Palestine-Israel, widespread anti-Palestinian rhetoric among commentators, or the framing of Palestinian rights advocacy as anti-Semitic. Understanding APR its real world consequences include job loss of voicing support of Palestinians, the justification of violence against Palestinians and their allies, and police using disproportionate force against peaceful protestors.

In this episode we speak with Emilio Dabed, the founding member of Legal Centre for Palestine, a lawyer specialised in international law and constituational matter. We talk about the legal proceedings in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice against the Attorney General of Canada for Canada’s failure to act to prevent genocide and in violation of its legal obligations under the Genocide Convention of 1948 as well as the plaintiff’s rights under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedom.

The Plaintiffs seek a declaration that Canada has a duty to take all measures wihtin its power to prevent genocide, and that Canada has violated that duty. They also seek a declaration that Canada’s acts and omissions have villated the plaintiff’s Charter rights to security of the person and to equal protection and equal benefit of the law without discrimitation.
