  • Day 23/100 Finding Your First Users: Early Traffic Channels for Startup Validation
    2026/08/05

One of the biggest challenges for every startup isn't building the product.

It's getting the right people to actually use it.

Without users, an MVP is just another project.

Without traffic, a landing page is just another webpage.

Today's lesson focused on Early Traffic Channels the strategies founders use to validate ideas before scaling.

The goal isn't to go viral.

    The goal is to learn.

Three early traffic channels stood out today:

    1️⃣ Communities

Platforms like Reddit, LinkedIn Groups, Slack, and Discord already have people discussing the problems you're trying to solve.

Instead of promoting your product immediately, contribute first.

    Build trust.

Then invite people to try your MVP or join your beta.

    2️⃣ Paid Ads

Small budget campaigns can generate valuable insights quickly.

Instead of spending thousands on marketing, use ads to test headlines, value propositions, and landing pages.

    The objective isn't growth.

    It's learning what resonates.

    3️⃣ Cold Outreach

Personalized emails and LinkedIn messages remain one of the most effective validation tools.

Rather than pitching your product, start by understanding the prospect's problem.

Meaningful conversations often produce your earliest users and most valuable feedback.

The biggest takeaway for me today:

Early traffic isn't about maximizing clicks. It's about maximizing learning.

A hundred engaged users who provide feedback are far more valuable than a thousand random visitors who never return.

Every click, sign up, conversation, and piece of feedback helps refine the product and move closer to product market fit.

Today's lesson: In the early stages of a startup, quality of users matters far more than quantity of traffic.

  • Day 22/100 Don't Build What People Say They Want. Build What They Pay For.
    2026/08/04

Day 22/100 Validating Startup Demand with Smoke Tests & Pre Orders

One of the most expensive mistakes a startup can make is building a product before knowing whether customers actually want it.

Today's lesson introduced two powerful validation techniques that help founders avoid this mistake:

    Smoke Tests and Pre Orders.

Instead of asking customers, "Would you buy this?", successful founders observe what customers actually do.

    Do they click?

    Do they sign up?

    Do they try to buy?

    Or even better...

Do they pay before the product exists?

That's the difference between opinions and evidence.

A Smoke Test presents a simplified version of your product a landing page, an advertisement, or a mock product listing to measure genuine customer interest.

A Pre Order goes one step further.

When customers pay in advance, they're no longer expressing curiosity.

    They're demonstrating commitment.

One example that stood out today was Zappos.

Before investing in inventory, founder Nick Swinmurn simply uploaded photos of shoes online.

Whenever someone placed an order, he bought the shoes from local stores and shipped them himself.

This simple experiment proved people were willing to buy shoes online before building the business.

    Tesla followed a similar principle.

Thousands of customers placed pre orders for vehicles years before production, validating demand while generating capital for development.

    My biggest takeaway:

The goal of a startup isn't to prove your idea is brilliant.

The goal is to prove customers actually want it.

    Smoke tests validate interest.

    Pre-orders validate commitment.

The strongest startups let customer behavior not founder assumptions guide every major decision.

Today's lesson: Build evidence before you build products. Customer actions will always be more valuable than customer opinions.
