Good to be back! I know it’s been a while, but sometimes you need to take a break for various reasons, and trust me, I have have my own.

Yesterday, I stepped outside, removed my shoes and socks, and placed my feet on the ground. It’s a wonderful sensation and quite humbling as it reminds me of my origins, formed from the earth and thus connected to it. As I sat down and surveyed my surroundings, I was filled with awe, gazing at the sun that warms my body, feeling the earth beneath my feet, and absorbing all the life around me because everything is interconnected, all that He has created for me to enjoy and recognize as I express my gratitude in humble reverence and worship at my altar to the God who made all of this! Psalm 5:3 captures it perfectly: “At each and every sunrise you will hear my voice as I prepare my sacrifice of prayer to you. Every morning I lay out the pieces of my life on the altar and wait for your fire to fall upon my heart”!

What’s important in life? This question came up during a conversation with a friend, and here is his response: 1. Peace and quiet. 2. Food, good food. 3. Friends and Family. I totally agree with these priorities, and I believe they align closely with the values of Hobbits. Thus, I can confidently say that I am a Hobbit. To illustrate this, I turn to a quote from Bilbo Baggins: “It has been remarked by some that Hobbits' only real passion is for food. A rather unfair observation as we have also developed a keen interest in the brewing of ales and the smoking of pipe weed. But where our hearts truly lie is in peace and quiet and good tilled earth. For all Hobbits share a love of all things that grow. And yes, no doubt to others, our ways seem quaint. But today of all days, it is brought home to me it is no bad thing to celebrate a simple life!”

I recorded this a while ago and intended to share it sooner, but I needed some rest and more sleep. Having spent much of my life trying to change the world, I learned that I needed to slow down to foster change first within myself, which takes time. Life is a marathon, not a sprint, so rest is essential. Sleep, then, is not weak, but if neglected will make us weak!
