Chapter 2: On the Human Mind

After speaking about the ego and how it may well be one of the main forces driving the major challenges humanity is facing at the moment, in Chapter 2.2, we focus on "the Now".

As mentioned before, Chapter 2 as a whole consists of five subchapters, and through the next four, we would like to continue disentangling the human mind. More importantly, we want to explore how we can steer the mind in the right direction, and how we can allow our minds to help make this world a better place. We believe this begins by gradually quieting the ego that lives within all of us.

Today, we would like to take a slightly more spiritual approach and discuss one of the most powerful tools for strengthening the mind: being present. In other words, we would like to explore the concept of the "Here and Now." Guiding us through this chapter is the highly influential book The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle.

Chapter 2: On the Human Mind

In Chapter 2.1, we turn inward and explore one of the most powerful forces shaping human behaviour: the ego.

Building on the idea from Chapter 1 that humanity has made remarkable progress, we now ask a deeper question: if we are capable of such progress, what is it within us that still holds us back?

Drawing on "Ego Is the Enemy" by Ryan Holiday, as well as broader perspectives on human nature, we discuss how the ego can both drive ambition and quietly undermine us — in our personal lives, in leadership, and on a global scale.

Understanding the ego is a first step toward understanding the human mind, the very force that creates the challenges of our time, but also holds the key to solving them.

Some of the books discussed in this chapter:

Ryan Holiday - Ego is the Enemy

    Rutger Bregman - Humanity

    Eknath Easwaran - Dhammapada

  • Chapter 1: Things are going well
    2026/04/01

It has been a long and exciting ride since the start of the existence of our species. If you really think about it and look at the stats, life as we have it right now, has never been better. However, a lot of people do not realise just how good we have it, and how much progress has been made in so many different areas. This knowledge is crucial to understand how well we can overcome challenges as humanity, which in turn brings hope for our future and the vast challenges we are facing. This is the first chapter of our series titled "the Hopeful Podcast", in which we would like to address the greatest threats to humanity and its solutions. Today, we discuss the thoughts of different thinkers of our time, many of whom seem to be in agreement that we have made remarkable progress. However, it is also recognised that some big challenges are ahead of us...
