    I'm Chris, a health and fitness coach for the over 40s, and after 16 years of helping people get fit and lose weight in midlife I know that workout consistency is the thing that separates the people who get results from the people who keep starting over.

    Most people who struggle to stay consistent with exercise aren't lazy or undisciplined. They're just not using the right kind of motivation, and they're not prepared for the parts of any fitness journey that feel pointless, boring and like they're going nowhere. Sound familiar?

    This video is about embracing the grind, using your ego as a consistency tool rather than pretending you only work out for sensible grown up reasons, and what finishing something genuinely hard does to your sense of what you're capable of.

    Whether you're trying to lose weight, build muscle, or just get fit after 40, the consistency problem is almost always the same. And a 650 page Russian novel with no paragraph breaks turned out to explain it better than anything else I've come across.

    Most people trying to lose weight in midlife aren't making obvious mistakes.

    They're not eating pizza every night or skipping the gym entirely. They're making reasonable efforts to lose fat and still getting nowhere, and that's genuinely frustrating.

    The mistakes that are actually keeping you stuck and failing to lose weight are quieter than that, habits and patterns that feel fine in isolation but stack on top of each other and quietly cancel out everything you're doing right.
