Why do we go back to school in autumn? What came first, the colour orange or the fruit? Why do Norwegians have potetferie (potato holiday)? In this episode, we're exploring the etymology of Norwegian words associated with høst, meaning autumn. We start with an overview of compound words and discuss why the school year starts in autumn. Then it's words associated with farming and how Norwegian culture begins to adapt to colder conditions, including the history of fårikål.
