Regardless of whether you make resolutions or not, the new year does something to all of us: it makes us pause and reflect on who we’ve been and who we’re becoming.

But there’s something we often forget when we think about growth, change, and transformation: we have opposition. There are real forces at work trying to keep us from becoming more like Christ.

Idolatry has infiltrated the church. We have replaced the idea of God with something that is incomparable to Him. In Isaiah 44, the Lord makes it clear how He feels about idolatry: it is foolishness.

We must ask ourselves, do we know Him, or have we made Him like our phones: a convenient God we like to pull out when needed.
