Nurture With Nature Podcast

What happens when we slow down, step outside, and have a real conversation?

The Nurture With Nature Podcast is the audio arm of the larger Nurture With Nature project, exploring how spending time in nature can shape the way we think, connect, create, heal, and move through everyday life.

Hosted by photographer and creator Humble Lyons, each episode takes the conversation outdoors. No cameras. No lights. No studio distractions. Just two people walking, talking, listening, and allowing nature to become part of the experience.

Guests come from different walks of life, including educators, naturalists, artists, health professionals, community leaders, researchers, and everyday people with meaningful relationships to the outdoors. Conversations explore their personal stories, their work, what nature has taught them, and the different ways they have learned to interact with the world around them.

Each episode also includes a moment of intentional silence, giving both the guest and listener a chance to stop talking, listen, reflect, and simply experience the environment.

And nature does not have to mean hiking a mountain or disappearing into the wilderness. It can be walking through a park, sitting beside the water, spending time on your patio, watching the stars, tending to a plant, or simply stepping outside for a little fresh air.

The goal is simple: have great conversations in nature, about nature, while discovering practical and sometimes unexpected ways nature can become part of our everyday lives.

This podcast shares personal experiences, ideas, and perspectives and is not intended to provide medical advice.

A Walk Around Mariners’ Lake with Rob Nichols

For the first episode of the Nurture With Nature Podcast, I’m joined by Rob Nichols, Mariners’ Lake Program Coordinator at The Mariners’ Museum and Park.

We take a walk around Mariners’ Lake and talk about Rob’s relationship with nature, how that relationship developed over time, and what ultimately led him into environmental education, outdoor recreation, and stewardship.

Along the way, we talk about the lake as more than just a beautiful place to visit. Rob shares how nature can create opportunities for learning, reflection, community engagement, and connection, especially when we slow down long enough to actually notice what is around us.

And true to the podcast, there are no cameras, no lights, and no studio distractions. Just a real conversation, the sounds of the lake, and a few moments where we stop talking altogether and simply listen.

This episode is a reminder that connecting with nature does not have to be complicated. Sometimes it starts with taking a walk, paying attention, and being open to what the environment has to teach you.

Welcome to Episode 1 of the Nurture With Nature Podcast.
