概要

Not Your Typical Solopreneur is the podcast for neurodivergent founders, women entrepreneurs, and online business owners whose brain, body, life, or business doesn't quite fit "the mold."

Most business advice is written for some mythical founder with twelve uninterrupted hours a day, a body that never flares, a brain that runs on rails, and zero people depending on him.

Somehow that founder became the model, the expert, the one we're all supposed to learn from and become. Which has left the rest of us feeling like we're failing or doing something wrong when our actual lives don't cooperate.

But we're not the outliers. We're the reason solopreneurship exists in the first place.

This show is for the person answering emails in a school pickup line. The one who built her whole business model around the three good hours her brain & body give her on a decent day. The one who had to pause a launch because a kid got sick, a flare hit, or a migraine showed up uninvited. The ADHD entrepreneur whose brain needs a brain dump before it can do anything useful. The founder with chronic illness who left a traditional job because "flexible" turned out to mean "flexible for them, not you."

We'll build everything here around a simple framework: brain, body, business. All 3 need to work together so you can build a profitable business you love without compromising your health & wellbeing.

This is all about capacity management, not time management.

Life-first strategy, not hustle culture.

Expect honest conversations about sustainable entrepreneurship, building a business with ADHD or chronic illness, avoiding founder burnout, neurodivergent-friendly systems, A.I. for solopreneurs, and real stories from founders building something that actually works in the middle of real life.

Some solo episodes, some guests.

Hosted by Dr. Brittany Kim, a Doctor of Physical Therapy with 10+ years specializing in chronic health conditions, neurological disorders, connective tissue disorders, and chronic pain. Brittany brings 6+ years of experience in the online marketing and education space, guest lectures at the University of Southern California, and has taught tens of thousands of PTs and OTs through online education platforms, residency programs, and 1:1 mentorship. She's also an ADHD'er, a mom, and a solopreneur building her own business in real time, right alongside you.

If business advice has never quite felt built for you, that's because it wasn't.

Let's build something that is.

  • She Didn't Plan to Be a Founder. Now She Runs One of the Most Innovative Clinics in the Country.
    2026/04/20

What does it actually look like to build a healthcare business you never planned to start…while managing a chronic illness, raising kids, and figuring out that most of the "entrepreneurship rules" don't apply to your brain?

In this episode, Brittany sits down with Julie Hershberg, PT, DPT, NCS founder of re+active Physical Therapy & Wellness.

Julie didn't come from a family of entrepreneurs. She wasn't chasing a business dream. She was a clinician doing work she loved, serving the people she cared about, all while being pregnant, pumping in the car, two kids under two at the time.

Then… she got laid off because "neurologic physical therapy wasn’t profitable enough", and that finally forced her hand & lit a fire in her to do her own thing.

What she built from being just 1 clinician, seeing just 1-2 patients a week has flourished into a 34-person integrated care practice, a thriving online membership community of 200+ patients, and a clinician education platform changing the way providers treat complex neurological conditions.

In this open & honest conversation, you'll hear about:

    • How Julie became a founder by necessity, not by design, and why she thinks that actually helped her
    • What it's really like to run a business with rheumatoid arthritis, and the non-negotiables (sleep, movement, structure) that keep her in remission
    • The myth of the "4-hour work week" and what 14 years of entrepreneurship actually taught her about neurodivergent brains and business
    • Why going to therapy has been more valuable than any business course she's ever taken
    • What the future of integrated, innovative healthcare could look like, and how re+active is already living it

Whether you're a clinician thinking about starting a practice, a founder figuring out how to build sustainably around a chronic condition, or someone who just needs to hear that you can build something meaningful without having it all figured out from the start — this one's for you.

  • How I Built a Multi-Six-Figure Business, Lost My Way as I started My Own Thing, and Found My Footing Again While Pursuing Sustainable Entrepreneurship
    2026/04/13

What does it actually look like to go from "I never thought of myself as an entrepreneur" to building an online business in one of the challenging economic climates in recent memory? That's exactly what Brittany shares in this solo episode.

This is a real, unfiltered look at her entrepreneurial journey: the pivots, the hard lessons, the marketing program that didn't fit, the season-of-life realities nobody tells you about, and what she keeps coming back to as the only framework that actually works for sustainable business building.

If you've ever felt like the business advice you're getting just wasn't built for your life, this one is for you.

    In this episode:

00:00 — Welcome and what you'll take away from this episode

01:56 — Why Brittany never thought of herself as an entrepreneur — and the image that got in the way

02:26 — Surprise: she's actually a fourth generation entrepreneur, and what that lineage looks like

05:27 — The entrepreneurial qualities she had her whole life that she never recognized as such

09:58 — The pandemic, the pivot, and how she accidentally built a multi-six-figure online education business

14:14 — The realization that she could do this for herself, and what she actually wanted to build

16:05 — The hardest decision: leaving something she loved to go all in on her own thing

19:53 — Jumping into entrepreneurship in 2025, and why the timing was, to put it mildly, a lot

26:38 — The confidence piece: why confidence in how you can serve others matters more than niche fit

27:15 — What her own social media data showed her when she stopped following someone else's method

36:21 — The membership pivot, why she thought it made sense, and why she ultimately moved toward 1:1 coaching instead

42:09 — The framework she keeps coming back to: intrinsic motivation, health and wellbeing, and season of life.... all together

  • What Is Sustainable Entrepreneurship? A Brain, Body, Business Framework for Solopreneurs
    2026/04/11

What does it actually mean to build a sustainable business...and why does so much entrepreneurship advice feel like it was written for someone else's life?

In this solo debut episode, Brittany Kim introduces the heart of Not Your Typical Solopreneur: a podcast for founders, solopreneurs, and small business owners who don't fit the standard mold. Not the ones crushing 5 a.m. cold plunges and color-coded time blocks. The ones with ADHD, chronic health conditions, caregiving responsibilities, and real lives that make conventional business advice feel impossible, or at best, irrelevant.

Brittany shares her background as a doctor of physical therapy and online business owner, and lays out the framework she'll use to explore sustainable entrepreneurship all season: brain, body, and business, viewed through the lens of the season of life you're actually in.

    In this episode:

    • Welcome and the question at the heart of this podcast: what does sustainable entrepreneurship actually look like in real life?
    • Why the conventional picture of a "successful entrepreneur" leaves so many people feeling like they're failing — when they're not
    • What solopreneur actually means, and who this show is really for (hint: you don't have to be doing it completely alone)
    • The three camps trying to answer the sustainability question: health and wellness, business systems, and soft/life-first business — what each gets right, and what's missing
    • Why nervous system regulation work can only take you so far if your business model is the thing that keeps dysregulating you
    • The sustainability conversation no one's having: social determinants of health, access to care, childcare, and discrimination
    • Introducing the brain, body, business framework and what each pillar actually means for how you run your business
    • Brittany's personal nugget for the all-or-nothing brain: why she's committing to one season, and how giving yourself a graceful exit ramp might be the most sustainable decision you make
