The August 2026 KLITICS Female Detectives and Sleuths Market Report found that the non-cozy segment of female-protagonist mystery, thriller, suspense, and crime fiction on Kindle now moves an estimated nearly 13,000 copies daily, based on a 90-day average sales rank analysis of more than 2,100 filtered titles that deliberately excluded cozy mysteries and psychological or domestic thriller positioning. The fully analyzed category generates an estimated $1.1 million in monthly author royalties, with the top 20 titles averaging 148 copies sold or borrowed per day and roughly $12,000 in monthly royalties, titles ranked 21 through 100 averaging 47 copies daily, and titles ranked 101 to 500 averaging 24 copies daily. The report shows the dedicated women-sleuths bestseller category, which had been sliding since the pandemic, now trending upward through 2025 and into 2026, with an average sales rank of 357 among top titles, translating to roughly 223 sales or borrows per day per book. The data points to renewed reader demand for hard-edged, non-cozy female detective and crime fiction, a genre with roots dating back to Agatha Christie, amid heightened public interest in true crime and unsolved case coverage.
