Except that's not what's happening.

The organization that gives recommendations to the FDA is meeting. The FDA has already stated they are not promoting or on the side of approving these compounds. And Alabama just became the first state to formally prohibit prescribing, administering, and dispensing research grade peptides — with a pointed reminder that research grade patient waivers offer zero legal protection.

This episode isn't really about peptides. It's about what happens when science, patient demand, and social media outpace regulation — and what you're going to do in your practice when that gap keeps widening.

• Alabama's Board of Medical Examiners issued a formal joint notice in May 2026 making the state the first to formally prohibit research-grade peptides in practice. The warning that research-grade patient waivers offer no legal protection is the part every prescriber needs to sit with.

• Peptides currently live in a gray zone — not a prescription, not a supplement. Access is not the same as authority. Authority is not the same as legal protection. If you're a prescriber using peptides in practice, an IRB is currently the only approved route. Know your state.

• Dr. Z uses peptides personally. She also doesn't do things in her practice unless she has full legal authority to do it. Those two things can both be true at the same time. You don't have to be the test case.
