• The Other Residents of Fairmont Crest: My View From Beyond the Gates
    2026/07/03

Yes, Beyond the Gates was in reruns this week, but that show must go on. This week host Dan J Kroll sneaks into Fairmont Crest to look for some of the residents that we don't get to see on-screen. Surely they have stories to tell.

This week, Dan's "nemesis" Richard Simms, the executive editor of Soaps.com and the former overseer of Soaps In Depth magazine drops in to talk about why he loves Beyond the Gates. Plus, there's some talk about what isn't quite working -- and one story twist that Richard thinks would make absolutely no sense.

My View From Beyond the Gates podcast is a weekly commentary about the CBS soap opera Beyond the Gates. It is hosted by Soap Central founder Dan J Kroll.

  • This Is The Part Where You Tell Me I’m Wrong: My View From Beyond the Gates
    2026/06/27

It doesn't matter what it is -- restaurants, fashion, politics, or Beyond the Gates. Everyone has an opinion. And, contrary to what some may believe, everyone is entitled to their opinion. But, as Salt n Pepa said in "None Of Your Business," opinions are like... well, let's just say that everybody's got one.

We also all make mistakes, though some are bigger than others. You know, like sexing your ex in an elevator in the middle of a tornado. Or pushing ahead with an ambush proposal when people have told you not to.

If only there was someone there to tell these folks that they're wrong. This week there is -- me!

  • This Is What Happens On A Soap Opera: My View From Beyond the Gates
    2026/06/19

It’s not easy when our favorite character is going through some stuff. But it’s not personal — in fact, it’s probably just the opposite. You never want to get to a point where your favorite character (or couple) is just background filler.

Take Eva and her damaged-beyond-repair liver. There are some fans who insist the writers hate Eva. Why else would they do this to her? Others think it’s Kat that the writers hate because they are forcing her to potentially be a donor for a sister that she hates. To those viewers, I say: This is a soap opera. This is what happens on a soap opera! Soap operas are messy. Soap operas are twisted. They are about love and hate and jealousy and passion and all of the emotions in between. And, if I am being honest, they often make absolutely no sense. That’s why we watch.

  • The Winds of Change: My View From Beyond the Gates
    2026/06/12

Change is the only constant. And that is definitely true on the soaps. A tornado brought significant change to Fairmont Crest, but it's the changes that cannot be seen that I am most worried about.

Marriages might be about to crumble. Family ties could be severed. And it's not entirely clear that everyone will survive their injuries.

Check out this week's My View From Beyond the Gates podcast by Soap Central founder Dan J Kroll. It's a weekly look at all the action in Fairmont Crest. It's part recap, part editorial, part stream of consciousness, and part blooper reel. Listen at the gym, on your commute, poolside, or anywhere else.

  • Allergies Have Seasons. Feelings Don't. | My View From Beyond the Gates
    2026/06/05

There's a song from the 80s that says seasons change, feelings change. But do they really? Do you ever really get over the betrayal of a loved one? Yes, time marches... but something as simple as an "on this day" photo on your phone can set off a wave of emotions you'd thought were gone.

A lot of us had a wave of emotions when we allllllllmost learned the identity of the Impaler. I have some theories... and most of them are wild. So grab a chair and prepare to throw things at your computer or phone.

  • Perception Is Worth More Than the Truth: My View From Beyond the Gates
    2026/05/16

Nowadays, it doesn't matter if what someone is saying is true. If they can convince enough people they're speaking the truth, the damage is already done. And it's often impossible to un-ring that bell.

That was the case with Anastasia and her venom spewing. She managed to get Samantha to doubt her own self-worth. Leslie's past actions have people convinced that she's doing wrong even when she isn't. And those are just a couple of the examples.

Find out why "Perception Is Worth More Than the Truth" in this A Beyond the Gates commentary by Soap Central founder Dan J Kroll for the week ending May 15, 2026.
