Some movies are born ugly. They're ugly and they can't help it. They can only be what they are and hope someone somewhere will like them. But in the case of director Nick Millard's 1975 film, Criminally Insane, it knows it's ugly and it's fine with it. It certainly doesn't care what you think of it. Just don't get in the way of its next meal…

Work is a drag, but somebody's gotta do it. Thing is, the working week is putting a bit of a hamper on our pursuit of shining a light on less appreciated horror movies. So, we find ourselves in a pickle. We can give up, admit defeat, and allow our favorite movies to be mocked and/or forgotten, or we can adjust the format of the show a bit and continue on. So now, maybe the dive is a little less deep, but the call to arms in defense of underappreciated films is as loud as ever. The format of the show may be changing, but the goal remains the same: illuminate the dark edges of cinema hell. And what better place to continue that mission than with a movie about a snake possessed by Satan. That movie is 1981's Jaws of Satan, filmed in and around central Alabama. 

If we told you that, Scary Movie, sat around for nearly thirty years before being rediscovered and properly released, you'd call me a liar. And you'd be right, if in fact we were talking about the Wayans brothers' horror spoof from 2000. But that's not the movie we're talking about. Instead, we're talking Daniel Erickson's 1991 ode to Halloween spookhouses, Scary Movie, a film that did in fact sit around for nearly thirty years before being properly released. Unfortunately, by the time it was released, a different "Scary Movie" had cast a pretty huge shadow over it. Join us as we stalk every dark corner of this unsung regional horror film (from Texas!) starring a young pre-Golden Globe John Hawkes.

Could it be that "sploitation" is the most fun suffix in all of cinema vocabulary? Nunsploitation (sexy movies about nuns), Ozsploitation (wonky Australian movies), Vansploitation (movies about vans), Brucesploitation (movies with actors who were similarly named like Bruce Lee hoping to fool people into thinking Bruce Lee was in the movie). Yeah, "sploitation" is up there for sure. But here at, Movies With My Cat, our favorite "sploitation" portmanteau is easily METALSPLOITATION, cinema's rockin'est horror romps. Take a casual jaunt through some of our favorite examples on this special episode of Movies With My Cat!

Start the year off right with a heaping helping of the 1988 headbanging, hard rockin' cinematic treasure trove known as, Black Roses. See a dude in a codpiece! Marvel at the leather clad monsters rocking the corruptible youth! There's also a couple of Lamborghinis in there for good measure. Plus, BigHead reveals his secret hair metal past.

Not all underappreciated movies are underappreciated because they're badly made. Sometimes they simply slip through the cracks and they don't get the veiwership they deserve. We believe 1990's creepy ghoul flick, The Boneyard, falls in that category. Not that plenty of people don't have bad things to say about it, they do. It's just that those same people can't help but also say something nice about, The Boneyard.
