  • When I am in the moment, just existing, there is no anxiety
    2025/06/20

Why mindfulness works and how it can help autistic children, young people and adults? In this clip Pete Wharmby shares his experience in our recent podcast conversation.

Mindfulness brings an experience of the present moment, the here and now in which anxiety doesn't exist, it just falls away.

Pete beautifully describes what it may look like.

Mindfulness isn't one practice and can be tailored to the needs of the individual. I'll share more about it in my next clip from our podcast conversation. Mindfulness allows the experience of peace and stillness within. From this place of inner calm life's challenges for the autistic person can be navigated with much more ease.

Developing the ability to be mindful, to pause, to be in the moment is what can transform our (neurodivergent) life.

I'm Katerina. I help autistic children feel confident, embrace their uniqueness, feel good in their body and navigate life with more easy and joy. I teach them techniques which help them regulate their nervous system, help them feel calmer inside and in tune with their body. I help them feel happy about who they are and encourage them to shine in the world and be the leaders they came to be. They were never meant to fit in. They were meant to stand out.

I support their parents, especially sensitive, empathic and neurodivergent mothers, to become the parent they wish to be for their child, build trust and confidence in themselves and live a fulfilled life with purpose.

I do so through therapeutic coaching, mindfulness and meditation and Reiki energy healing. I will soon be a qualified EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) practitioner too.

  • Meditation for Self-Love and Self-Acceptance
    2025/02/13

Why would you want to love yourself? What kind of strange concept is it?

Isn't it selfish and narcissistic to love yourself?

I wanted love in my life. I wanted connection. I wanted to feel true connection to my boys AND my husband. Most importantly I needed tore-connectwith myself, my essence, Life itself.

The problem is you can't create genuine, deep connect with others when you're disconnected from yourself and your heart.

I hadn't realised how closed up my heart was; how thick were the walls I'd built around it. Nothing could get through. There my long journey of return to myself started. I needed to open my heart again. I needed to find love for myself so that I can share it with others.

The journey isn't over. I'm finding greater and greater depths within my heart that require me to enter. Each time it's a little scary. An open heart brings with it a lot of vulnerability...

However, I now know it is the only way. And the rewards are immense.

Imagine how much more love and joy you could feel if your heart were truly open... To be shared with others...

Here is my gift to you, Beautiful Souls, a meditation to help you connect to your heart and start loving yourself a little bit more.

    With Love

In the last podcast conversation of 2024, Katerina Newbury speaks with Ryan Hartley, a coach and heart-centred leadership expert, about leadership, love, and living a life of service. Ryan shares his personal journey of growth—how becoming a father and manager shifted his perspective on leadership, why serving others starts with self-awareness, and how leading from the heart transforms communities, families, and individuals. The conversation dives into powerful insights on balancing leadership in work and home life, breaking through personal pain, and aligning one's life with their true values. Katerina and Ryan discuss the importance of addressing our needs, rediscovering our gifts, and connecting with our authentic selves. Key Topics - What is Heart-Centred Leadership? Ryan explains that leadership is not about rank or hierarchy but the act of serving others by putting their needs ahead of our own. He shares how leading from love contrasts with leadership solely focused on mindset or societal expectations. - Leadership at Home Ryan discusses the idea that leadership begins within the family. Parenting, he says, is the greatest contribution to society, with ripple effects through generations. He emphasizes self-awareness, emotional healing, and intentional responses as tools for becoming better leaders at home. -The Journey to Self-Awareness Ryan reflects on his journey of discovering and addressing his own wounds and needs, highlighting the importance of understanding one’s pain as a pathway to personal growth and service to others. - Aligning Your Life with Your Heart’s Purpose Katerina and Ryan discuss the importance of living authentically and pursuing one's gifts. • Samurai Success: Create Your Destiny
    2024/10/04
In this episode, host Katerina Newbury sits down with David Olcott, founder and CEO of Samurai Success, an international coaching firm based in Denver, Colorado. David’s unique approach bridges the gap between spiritual growth and material success, showing how mastering both realms is key to a fulfilling and successful life. Drawing from the principles of samurai philosophy and his book Swords of Illumination, David delves into the journey of aligning the inner self with external success. The discussion revolves around how living a life dedicated to the service of others requires discipline, self-awareness, and a deep understanding of how spiritual principles can enhance material accomplishments. The conversation touches on mastering self-discipline, living with purpose, and the transformative journey of becoming present for others by working on oneself. Key Topics Discussed: The Fusion of Spiritual and Material Realms: David explains how success in the material world is deeply tied to spiritual growth, suggesting that one cannot thrive without the other. He illustrates this through samurai principles of discipline, self-mastery, and service to others, which inform his coaching practice. From 'Do-Have-Be' to 'Be-Do-Have': Traditional paths to success often focus on achieving material results first. David proposes a reversal—starting with self-identity (being) to drive actions (doing), which then lead to external achievements (having). This approach places spiritual alignment at the centre of material success.Spirituality in Action: Katerina and David explore how spiritual practices, like meditation and self-reflection, are critical in navigating the fast-paced, result-driven world. These practices help individuals stay present, prevent conflicts, and tap into deeper purpose.Facing Mortality to Embrace Life: David reflects on how contemplating death, a practice rooted in samurai tradition, removes fear and liberates one to fully engage in life. This spiritual awakening allows for more meaningful material pursuits and success.Transforming Subconscious Programming: The conversation highlights how early childhood programming influences adult behaviour in all aspects of our life. By reprogramming the subconscious, individuals can break free from limiting beliefs and unlock their full potential, blending spiritual insights with tangible results.Creation of Identity: Rather than discovering a pre-defined identity, David advocates for consciously creating who you are. This act of creation marries spiritual intention with the material world, enabling individuals to manifest the life they desire. David's Quotes: “When you work on who you are spiritually, you clear the path for material success to follow naturally.” “We’re not here to discover who we are, but to create who we are and experience that fully in this material world.” “The marriage of spiritual mastery and material success lies in discipline—both in mastering yourself and in serving others.” Guest Information: David Olcott, Founder and CEO, Samurai Success Author of Swords of Illumination Connect with David: Website: Samurai Success Instagram: @samuraisuccess Twitter: @samuraisuccess Host Information: Katerina Newbury, founder of MindCraft, therapeutic coach, mindfulness & meditation teacher, Reiki practitioner Connect with Katerina: Website: mindcraftkids.com Instagram: @katerina_mindcraft Facebook: @mindcraftkids LinkedIn: Katerina Newbury

  • Foster Care and Neurodivergent Kids. Helping Them Thrive.
    2024/09/20
In this episode I speak with Claudia Herman, a foster parent, a carer and a psychotherapist specialising in trauma recovery, supporting neurodivergent young people and adults. Claudia discusses the profound impact early childhood trauma has on development, the unique challenges faced by neurodivergent children, and how therapy can be a powerful tool in helping these children heal and thrive. With a background in education and SEN Claudia talks about the power of advocacy to support her son within the foster care and education system. • The Nature of Early Childhood Trauma: Claudia explains how children in the foster care system often experience complex trauma, stemming from long-term exposure to unsafe or unstable environments. This trauma can severely affect their sense of safety, identity, and emotional well-being, making it difficult for them to trust or feel secure, even in new settings. Key insight: These children lack a foundational sense of safety, and therapy helps them rebuild this crucial part of their development. • Challenges in Trauma Recovery for Foster Children: Many children internalise the belief that they are responsible for the trauma they experienced, particularly those in foster care. Claudia discusses how therapy provides a safe space for children to explore and release this misplaced guilt, helping them rebuild self-esteem and trust in others. Key insight: Therapy is essential for fostering children’s emotional recovery by helping them process feelings of guilt and shame, and regain a sense of control. • Neurodivergent Children and Additional Layers of Complexity: Neurodivergent children, such as those with autism or ADHD, face unique challenges in addition to trauma. Claudia highlights how these children often expend significant energy masking their differences to fit societal norms (especially within the school environment), further depleting their emotional and cognitive resources. School trauma is real! Key insight: Neurodivergent children benefit from having safe spaces in which they can be their true selves, without masking. • The Role of Advocacy: Drawing from her personal experience as a foster parent, Claudia explains the vital role advocacy plays in ensuring children’s needs are met within complex systems like education and social care. After encountering resistance when advocating for her foster son’s needs, she trained in advocacy to learn the proper language and tools to effectively communicate with authorities. Advocacy empowers parents and carers to push for the right support and services for vulnerable children. Key insight: Learning the right language and approach can make a significant difference when advocating for neurodivergent and foster children within bureaucratic systems. • "For children in foster care, complex trauma doesn’t just end when they’re removed from the unsafe environment. They often carry the burden of guilt, believing they are responsible for what happened." • "Neurodivergent children expend so much energy masking just to fit in. They often don’t have the bandwidth left to process their trauma, making therapy an essential space to safely explore and express their true selves."
