  • To Be or Not to Be - a Silver Sister
    2025/02/11

Meet Ilise Harris. Ilise has been a freelance make up artist for over 40 years.

She worked on countless American and European fashion and beauty magazines, advertising campaigns and album covers. She travelled to far flung locations and met fascinating people. Liza Minelli, Madonna, Lisa Marie Presley, Kathleen Battle, Anna winter, Mia Farrow - those are some celebrities Ilise enjoyed working with.

She also studied mobile photography and now she became a film maker.

Embracing her own silver curls enabled her to connect to women on the street, in Facebook groups locally and internationally. She decided to make a film about women who stop coloring their hair and embrace their natural grey and silver.

This is often not an easy decision for women. Many experience judgement - from their own mindset and from people close to them. Even strangers feel they can have an opinion how women's hair should be.

In our conversation we also talk about the journey women experience when they move through perimenopause into their wise woman years. What role does hair color play?

What else are women challenging when their hormones are changing? What are the gifts on the other side of menopause?

Ilise shares her own journey and what she learned from the women in the movie.

The movie was shown at the Yonkers film festival to a full house. If you missed it, don't despair. You can still watch it here: Your Roots are Showing.

  • If you are a midlife woman - should you move to Canada?
    2024/12/03

In the US, women in perimenopause often feel that the western medical system has abandoned them. We have heard a lot about the benefits of healthcare in Canada. How are they doing with supporting midlife women?

In my conversation with Lindsay we talk about the general healthcare system in Canada, and we especially focus on her personal experience. As a mother and businesswoman - what did perimenopause add to her already busy life?

Were there any challenges she had to overcome? What was the physical experience of perimenopause - and was there also an emotional layer?

And what comes after? What was her learning and growth process - and how is she using her experience now to support others. Hint: she is a leadership coach for high achieving business leaders.

Lindsay has her own podcast for and about female entrepreneurs and small business owners. You can listen to it here: Female Founder Unplugged

Perimenopause is such a challenging time for women.

So many things are changing in our bodies. Some changes are more internal, you don't see them but you do feel them! Others are there for everyone to see - like changes to our skin. I had a conversation with Ann, the founder and owner of Gallop Hill. The creative and entrepreneurial soul she is - she founded a company and created natural, gentle products that are dermatologist tested, non irritant, safe for all skin types and the environment. And they smell amazing!!!

Ann's products are available from her website and she has a special offer for listeners of this podcast: a special 10% discount until November 30th, 2024 and a free gift.
