When leadership feels heavy, more productivity tips do not help. We need a picture of ordinary men who stay faithful when money is tight, health gives way, and influence is tested behind closed doors.

This conversation opens up how faith can quietly shape decisions at work, at home, and in the heart.

Dr. Gerard Cascio shares how starting a dental practice in brutal economic conditions, raising three daughters, walking through his child's meningitis, and his own open-heart surgery grew a simple, stubborn trust in God.

His story invites us into a slower, more honest vision of Christian leadership that puts obedience before outcomes and legacy before image.

    Meet Gerard:

Dr. Gerard Cascio is a retired dentist from Beaumont, Texas, who began his private practice in 1980 during a period of steep interest rates and economic hardship in the region.

Educated in Catholic schools, he built his career on a deeply held Christian faith and the conviction that people must first know how much you care before they care how much you know.

Over more than four decades, his practice grew primarily through word of mouth, driven by a personal, relationship-centered approach and a commitment to treating every patient as he would his own family.

Gerard and his wife Brenda, married for over 47 years, have three daughters and a growing legacy of grandchildren whose faith and character are central to his sense of purpose.

Shaped by his parents' missionary work in El Salvador and Guatemala, he has instilled in his family a heart for service, gratitude, and generosity.

After surviving a major four-way bypass surgery in his late sixties, Gerard's focus has turned even more toward legacy, spiritual leadership, and investing in his family.

Now retired, he spends his time caring for his grandchildren, supporting extended family, and modeling humble, faith-driven leadership with eternity in view.

  • What Changes When You Stop Abandoning Yourself
    2026/03/02

"You have a wonderful opportunity here to set aside the pressure and live in presence with the One who created you, who's more interested in your life than even you are, who has a purpose and a plan, and the stakes are high for Him, because He wants your purpose to be lived out while you're here in a powerful way." —Don Wood

Many men don't lose themselves through failure, addiction, or poor choices.

    They lose themselves through responsibility.

In this episode, we give language to a pattern countless leaders live inside without realizing it has a name. Self-abandonment doesn't look destructive on the outside. It often looks like strength, reliability, composure, and

faithfulness. It forms when a man learns to override his own inner world so he can stay effective for everyone else. Over time, that adaptation creates distance from his body, his emotions, his relationships, and even from God.

In this conversation, I explore where self-abandonment begins, why it often forms in childhood, and how what once protected a boy can constrain a man. We look at how this pattern shapes leadership, marriage, fatherhood, and faith. Why discipline alone cannot restore what presence is meant to heal.

You'll hear how stopping self-abandonment changes:

    • The way you experience pressure inside your body

    • The tone and steadiness of your leadership

    • Emotional closeness in your relationships

    • Your connection with God beyond duty and endurance

Drawing from Scripture, lived experience, and years of walking with men in leadership, this episode invites you into a different way of living. One rooted in presence rather than pressure, and companionship rather than isolation.

We end with reflective questions for prayer and journaling, along with a closing prayer asking God to restore what responsibility has overshadowed.

If you've been leading well on the outside but feel increasingly unfamiliar to yourself on the inside, this message is for you.

  • Leadership That No Longer Costs Your Inner Life
    2026/02/23

"The strongest leaders are not those who push the hardest. They're the ones who remain internally coherent when they're under pressure. They lead without losing themselves because they know who they are apart from what they do." —Don Wood

Many men in leadership are not failing, burned out, or losing faith. They are dependable, disciplined, and deeply committed. Yet something essential inside has been slowly diminished over time.

In this episode, Don Wood speaks directly to executives, leaders, and men under responsibility who feel the subtle cost leadership has taken on their inner life. This conversation is about how long-term responsibility, when practiced without restoration, reshapes the nervous system, identity, relationships, and even faith itself.

    Don explores:

    • the difference between leadership rooted in survival versus leadership grounded in stewardship, showing how identity can slowly become fused with responsibility

    • How this fusion erodes clarity, presence, and spiritual refuge over time

    • why prayer alone sometimes feels insufficient for exhausted leaders

    • how faith can subtly turn into endurance rather than renewal

    • what it means to rebuild internal safety after years of constant vigilance

Throughout the conversation, Don offers grounded principles, reflective questions, and pastoral insight to help leaders reclaim presence, restore their inner life, and lead from a place of wholeness rather than tension.

If you are a CEO, executive, business owner, or leader who functions well but senses something important has been traded along the way, this episode invites you to lead differently without weakening your leadership or abandoning responsibility.

Leadership does not need to cost you your inner life.

Most leadership conversations focus on skills, strategy, and performance. In this episode, Don Wood explores the building blocks of the best leaders. The unseen foundations that determine whether leadership becomes life-giving or slowly drains the man carrying it.

Drawing from Scripture, personal experience, and years of walking with men in leadership, this episode reveals why leadership breakdowns rarely happen because of a lack of intelligence or discipline. • Responsibility and Relationships: Why Strong Leaders Struggle With Emotional Connection
    2026/02/09

"You're not choosing between strength and intimacy; learn how to integrate them, because responsibility was never meant to separate you from the people that you love and care about." —Don Wood

Responsibility shapes how men lead and determine how they relate.

In this episode of Men's Leadership God's Way, Don Wood explores how responsibility, formed early in life, deftly trains men in leadership to relate from a place of control rather than connection.

While responsibility creates reliability, composure, and strength, it can also produce emotional distance in marriages, families, friendships, and teams.

Drawing from his own story of growing up in an alcoholic home, developing survival patterns that later became leadership strengths, and facing deep vulnerability through major health crises.

Don reveals how emotional withdrawal becomes normalized for many men. Over time, relationships become functional rather than connected, stable on the surface yet strained beneath the surface.

This episode offers a different way forward. Through reflection, practical relational shifts, and the example of Jesus, who carried immense responsibility without withdrawing emotionally. Men are invited to integrate strength and intimacy rather than choosing between them.

    You'll learn:

    • How responsibility reshapes emotional availability without you realizing it

    • Why emotional withdrawal often transfers stress instead of protecting others

    • The difference between explaining emotions and expressing them

    • Small, sustainable practices that restore connection without overwhelming you

    • How to lead from presence rather than control in your closest relationships

This conversation is for men who lead well, provide consistently, and stay strong publicly. But feel relational distance growing inside their lives.

Strong leadership and deep connection were never meant to be opposites.

    Episode Highlights:

03:20 The Impact of Responsibility on Leadership and Relationship

05:00 Jesus' Model of Leadership and Emotional Presence

09:55 Practical Steps for Improving Relationships

  • When Responsibility Becomes a Burden: How Christian Leaders Sustain Leadership Without Losing Themselves
    2026/02/02

"You're not weak for feeling the pressure in your life, and you're not failing because leadership might feel overwhelming to you. The truth is, you were never meant to navigate all of this responsibility by yourself. Responsibility is to be lived in trust, community, and dependence on God. —Don Wood"

Leadership responsibility shapes Christian leaders long before executive titles or authority ever appear.

For many Christian executives, responsibility begins early in life in environments where stability was uncertain, and vigilance felt necessary for safety. Over time, those patterns evolve into reliability, emotional control, and leadership strength—but they also create hidden internal pressure that contributes to leadership burnout, exhaustion, and spiritual strain.

In this episode of Men's Leadership God's Way, Don Wood explores how responsibility quietly shifts from stewardship into survival for Christian leaders and faith-driven executives. Leadership continues to function,

yet joy fades, rest stops restoring, and faith-based leadership begins to feel disconnected from daily pressure and decision-making.

This conversation examines why executive burnout often develops beneath competence and composure, and how Jesus modeled a fundamentally different approach to leadership responsibility—one rooted in trust,

discernment, and obedience without urgency or fear. Scripture reminds us that Christian leadership was never meant to be lived as the source, but as faithful stewardship grounded in dependence on God.

In this episode of Men's Leadership God's Way, you'll hear about:

    • How responsibility can quietly shift from stewardship into survival

    • Why burnout often develops beneath competence, composure, and success

    • How chronic vigilance impacts the nervous system and emotional health

    • Why rest can feel unsafe—even after stepping away

    • Jesus' model of leadership rooted in trust, discernment, and obedience

    • The spiritual cost of carrying roles you were never meant to hold

    • How sustainable, faith-based leadership emerges through shared and aligned responsibility

This episode is for Christian leaders, executives, and high-achieving men seeking faith-based leadership without burnout.

    Episode Highlights:

    04:15 The Translation to Responsibility

    07:29 The Cost of Over-Responsibility
