📖 Matthew 18:15–20 – The Church Discipline Process (Part 2)
🎙️ Sermon by Pastor Casey Lewis | Foundation Baptist Church | Euless, TX
📅 December 2025
In this follow-up to last week’s teaching, Pastor Casey Lewis completes the five-step process of biblical church discipline laid out by Jesus in Matthew 18. Far from being harsh or outdated, this process is a God-ordained means of pursuing holiness, protecting the church, and restoring the wandering.
Pastor Casey emphasizes that church discipline is about love, not punishment—because we love the Lord, we love His church, and we love the sinner enough to call them back.
🔍 Five clear steps from Jesus:
1️⃣ Talk in private – Address the sin personally, not publicly
2️⃣ Take others with you – If there’s no repentance, bring one or two more
3️⃣ Tell it to the church – Bring the matter to the church body for action and accountability
4️⃣ Treat those who do not repent as Gentiles – If someone persists in sin, lovingly treat them as an unbeliever, sharing the gospel and removing them from membership
5️⃣ Truly, Christ is with us – When church discipline is done biblically and humbly, Jesus promises His presence and authority
This sermon is saturated with Scripture, practical wisdom, and pastoral urgency. Pastor Casey reminds us:
Discipline is an act of grace
Ignoring sin weakens the church and dishonors Christ
Restoration is always the goal
Church purity must never be sacrificed for comfort or “efficiency”
“When discipline leaves a church, Christ goes with it.” – J.L. Dagg
“Truly, I say to you… where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.” – Matthew 18:20
