In this Bible class, we return to Luke 15 and explore how its message reaches far beyond the parables of the lost sheep, lost coin, and lost sons. Using the stories of Martha and Mary in Luke 10 and John 11–12, we examine how Jesus responds to people with different personalities, struggles, and ways of expressing their faith.
Rather than treating Martha as a negative example, this lesson takes a closer look at her interactions with Jesus and the deep faith she demonstrates during some of the most difficult moments of her life. Through the raising of Lazarus and the familiar account of Mary sitting at Jesus’ feet, we see a Savior who understands both our strengths and our weaknesses and invites us to keep coming back to Him.
Whether you identify more with Martha’s diligent service or Mary’s quiet devotion, this study offers encouragement that faithful discipleship is not about perfection. It is about trusting Christ, growing through our struggles, and continuing to follow Him with the gifts and opportunities He has given us.
