This episode of “The 207 Collective” features Mandy Sumner — a North Berwick, Maine native with deep local roots who has gone on to accomplish incredible things on the world stage in the sport of freediving. Growing up in southern Maine, Mandy was heavily involved in competitive swimming with the Sanford Titans and even helped start the swim team at Noble High School before eventually discovering her passion for freediving.
Mandy made history as the first American freediver ever to win a gold medal at the AIDA World Championships, tying for gold in the Constant Weight No Fins discipline with an incredible 58-meter (190-foot) dive representing Team USA in Cyprus.
She also gained worldwide attention after setting a Guinness World Record in Norway, swimming 75 meters (246 feet) under ice in freezing water wearing only a swimsuit and fins — all on a single breath.
In this episode, we talk about her journey from small-town Maine to becoming a world champion athlete, the mental toughness it takes to push the limits of the human body, overcoming fear, and what continues to drive her toward new challenges and records. “The 207 Collective” is recorded locally in Alfred, Maine and available on all major listening platforms.
