We usually talk about technology, innovation, artificial intelligence, and the changing world of work. But today I'd like to step back more than half a century and introduce you to someone who never touched a computer, never sent an email, and never imagined artificial intelligence.

Yet his ideas may be more relevant to education in 2026 than ever before.

Today marks the anniversary of the death of Lorenzo Milani, the Italian priest, educator, and social reformer whose influence on teaching continues to challenge educators around the world.

His most famous work, Letter to a Teacher, asks a deceptively simple question:
