IVF forces a question most of us would rather avoid: when does “helping” become “taking over”? We open with a Christian framework that refuses to treat human reproduction as a closed system of lab steps and success rates, because Scripture keeps pulling us back to a bigger reality, God is sovereign, God gives life, and God’s Word sets the boundary lines even when our emotions and our culture demand exceptions.
We walk through Genesis with Jacob, Rachel, and Leah to show how infertility can intensify jealousy, desperation, and blame, and why Jacob’s words still land like a hammer: “Am I in the place of God?” That moment becomes a mirror for modern assisted reproductive technology. If God superintends conception, what does that mean for in vitro fertilization, embryo creation, embryo selection, surrogacy, and the quiet normalizing of freezing human lives in cryopreservation?
From there, we lay out a clear Christian ethics of IVF rooted in the image of God and the sanctity of life from conception. We argue that embryos, including embryos in a Petri dish, are neighbors with intrinsic value, not property or leftovers of a process. We also move into practical, concrete next steps: defending embryonic life against unjust violence, pushing for equal protection legislation, and considering embryo adoption, including snowflake adoption, for families who have frozen embryos.
If this challenges you, that’s the point. Listen, pray, share this with a friend, and subscribe, leave a review, and pass it along to someone who needs a grounded, biblical perspective on IVF and embryo adoption.
