Lux Radio Theatre presents “Two Years Before the Mast,” originally broadcast on September 22, 1947, as episode 582. This CBS production, sponsored by Lux, adapts the 1946 Paramount Pictures film based on Richard Henry Dana Jr.’s classic sea narrative.

Set aboard the merchant brig Pilgrim on an 1834 voyage from Boston toward California, the drama follows Charles Stewart as he confronts the brutal realities of shipboard life under the harsh Captain Francis Thompson. Alan Ladd and Howard Da Silva reprise their film roles in this adaptation by Sanford Barnett, directed by Fred MacKaye.
