In Luke 2:39–52, Jesus is found in the Temple as a twelve-year-old, already revealing himself as the true interpreter of Scripture and the one who belongs in his Father’s house. Luke intentionally echoes this scene in the Road to Emmaus, where the risen Jesus opens the Scriptures and shows that God’s presence is no longer centered in a place, but in Christ himself. Both stories call us to return—away from assumption and confusion and back to Jerusalem—bearing witness to the truth of who Jesus is and what God has done through him.
