  • Episode 5 - John Franzky - Part 2: Franzky's Garage
    2023/06/22

In part two, we grabbed our bikes and crossed the river to go scope out Franzky's Garage. Corey and I have both been there before, but this time was a little different. Franzky was ready for the onslaught of questions we were ready to unload about his collection of vintage mountain bikes.

Franzky graciously shares his stories of his collection including his first Ritchey, various trades and swaps with Bow Cycle friends/customers, and many other tales of steel tubes!

We also discuss bike polo, which Corey and Franzky play every Tuesday and is how Chris and Franzky met for the first time. We also chat about how great Calgary is but how it has changed throughout the years we have all lived here.

  • Episode 4 - John Franzky - Part 1: Bow Cycles E-Bikes
    2023/06/16

We would bet almost every Calgarian knows about Bow Cycle; not only because of the size of the shop and volume of bikes sold, but also because of the history that surrounds Bow Cycle and its Bowness location. However, this episode was recorded at Bow Cycle's newest location which specializes in E-Bikes. It is here where we sat down with John Franzky, one of the owners of Bow Cycle.

John shares some history of Bow Cycle including some of the more interesting projects that the shop has experimented with, like special edition bikes and cheeky branding. We also chat about the bike industry including more recent insights given the affects of Covid and ... you guessed it ... e-bikes.

After our chat at the Bow Cycle E-Bikes we hopped on bikes to head to John's garage which is adorned with dozens of vintage mountain bikes. A real bike nerds dream. Stay tuned for part 2.

  • Episode 2 - Reg Mullett part 2 - Reg's Shop, Bowness Calgary
    2023/03/26

Starting our podcast with Reg Mullett was always the plan; however, during our first recording our equipment had some issues (definitely was not the operator) and we lost a good chunk of the interview. As we said, that gave us reason to interview Reg again. This also got the podcast back up to the present day, since Episode 1 was recorded back in May of 2022.

For part 2, Reg welcomed Corey and I into his home shop garage on a chilly St. Patrick's Day evening so we could catch up and dive a bit deeper into what drives, motivates, and encourages Reg to keep the stoke. We also get an update on what's in the works for MMBTS!

Join us as we find out more about this local legend.

  • Episode 1 - Reg Mullett - Prairie Mountain
    2023/03/19

Reg agreed to be on our podcast only if we would help him with a section of trail he was currently working on that week. Luckily, the L4 podcast is designed to be recorded remotely, so we drove down HWY 66 to meet up with Reg on an early Spring evening of 2022. After removing a boulder the size of steamer truck, we sat down a few feet from the trail with some tasty beers to get to know Reg a little bit better.

If you mountain bike in the Southern Alberta region or have ridden any trail on Moose Mountain, just an hour outside of Calgary Alberta, then you either know, have heard of, or been impacted by Reg Mullett. This superstar of mountain biking has created numerous trails, encouraged countless community members, and gifted many of us with a slice of his stoke. Join Chris and Corey as we sit down with Reg Mullett ...
