  • Finding a Name for Yourself

    Every person is on a search for an identity. Our culture tells us the way to find it is to make a name for yourself — through career, appearance, performance, social media, or belonging. The Tower of Babel is the ancient picture of this impulse: humanity gathering, building, and striving upward to secure a name for themselves apart from God. The result was confusion, division, and scattering. But Pentecost is the reversal of Babel. Where Babel scattered, the Spirit gathers. Where Babel confused, the Spirit clarifies. Where Babel left people grasping for a name, the Spirit gives one. The freedom we have been building toward our whole lives is not something we construct — it is something we receive.
