In Luke 5, Jesus borrows a fisherman's boat, preaches to a crowd, and then tells Peter to do something that makes zero sense: go back out to the deep and drop the nets again after a failed all-night fishing trip. What follows becomes the foundation for Peter's calling and for understanding what the church actually is.
Pastor Grant traces the Old Testament echoes of the deep sea as a place of chaos, danger, and the absence of God's blessing, and then shows how Jesus reverses all of that by His Word. The miracle here isn't really about fish. It's about how the Word of God functions as a net that pulls people out of darkness and into the community of Christ.
The sermon lands on a deeply personal question: What is the thing in your life that you're not willing to put second to Jesus? Comfort? Control? Inertia? And where does the power to actually let go of it come from?
This is a sermon about the difference between saying the right words and sincerely asking God for the love that makes following Him possible — even when it doesn't make sense.
