第8回は、現在南アフリカ共和国 教育省にて JICA専門家としてご活躍中の板垣暁歩さんをお迎えし、お話を伺いました。

大学卒業後すぐに青年海外協力隊へ参加され、高校教員、大学院進学、コンサルタントへの転身、NGO運営など、これまで本当に多岐にわたるご経験を積まれてきた板垣さん。

人生のさまざまな節目で、地道に未来への種をまきながら、訪れたチャンスを柔軟に、そして力強くつかんでこられた姿勢がとても印象的でした。

どんな出来事も前向きに「これもご縁」と受け止め、着実に前へ進まれている姿に、私自身も大きな勇気をいただきました。

今回は大学卒業後からのキャリアを中心に全体的なお話を伺いましたが、ぜひ今後はそれぞれのキャリアの中身についてもさらに深くお話をお聞きしたいと思います。

In Episode 8, we had the pleasure of speaking with Mr. Akiho Itagaki, who currently works as a JICA expert at the Ministry of Education in South Africa.

After graduating from university, Mr.Itagaki joined the Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCV) as a fresh graduate, and later built an impressive career spanning high school teaching, completing a master’s degree, consulting, and NGO management.

What struck me most was how he has sown seeds for the future throughout each stage of life—always ready to seize new opportunities with flexibility and courage.

No matter the challenge, he embraces each turn of life with positivity, saying, “This must be fate,” and continues to move forward.

In this episode, we explored the overall flow of Mr. Itagaki’s career so far, but I hope to dive deeper into each stage in future interviews.

第7回は、鳴門教育大学で准教授をしている日下智志が彼自身のこれまでのキャリアについてお話ししました。前々回は20代の話が中心でしたが、今回はその後30-40代のキャリアを深掘りました。

国際協力のコンサルタントはどんな仕事をするの？

大変なことは？

初めて降り立った南スーダンの印象は？

なぜ会社から独立した？

大学教員として働くということ。

などなど。

国際協力の道を目指す人々、これからキャリアを積もうとしている人々へのアドバイスとして、"履歴書を武装すること" を挙げられていました。チャンスが舞い込んできたときに、いつでもそのチャンスを掴める用意をしておく、というのが大変印象的でした。

今後のキャリアを悩まれている方、国際協力や大学教員に興味がある方、必見です。是非お聞きください！

For Episode 7, we welcomed Professor Satoshi Kusaka from Naruto University of Education as our guest speaker.

Two sessions ago, we talked mainly about his career in his 20s — and this time, we dove deeper into his journey through his 30s and 40s.

Topics we explored:

– What does a consultant in international development actually do?

– What are the biggest challenges?

– His first impressions when he landed in South Sudan

– Why he decided to become independent

– What it means to work as a university professor

etc.

One of the most memorable messages he shared for those pursuing international development or shaping their future careers was:

“Arm your résumé.”

In other words, always prepare yourself so that when an opportunity comes, you’re ready to seize it. That mindset left a strong impression on all of us.

第6回は、ユタ州立大学で航空宇宙工学の博士課程に在籍している峯岡誠太郎さんにお話を伺いました！

これまでの人生の歩みや、高専(高等専門学校)での経験、社会人として働いた後にアメリカでPhD（博士号）を目指すことになった経緯、そして海外留学の準備でやっておくべきことなど、たくさんのことをお聞きしました。

峯岡さんは「現在の自分を形作っているもの」として、「高等専門学校で、自分の好きなことを好きなようにできる。それが“絶対的な正義”という環境に7年間いられたこと」を挙げられました。

お話を聞いて、私たちも「よし、頑張ろう！」と心が熱くなり、ワクワクする気持ちになりました。

In our 6th episode, we had the pleasure of talking with Seitaro Mineoka, a Ph.D. student in Aerospace Engineering at Utah State University!

He shared his journey so far — his experiences at a technical college, his time working in industry, and what led him to pursue a Ph.D. in the U.S. We also discussed what to prepare for studying abroad and many other valuable insights.

His story truly inspired us and made us feel excited and motivated to keep doing our best.
