Episode 8 – Generosity in the Light

Bible Verse: 2 Corinthians 9:7 (NLT) — “You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.”

Bonus Verse: Acts 20:35 — “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”

In this episode Pastor Jay helps kids see that generosity is about more than money—it’s about giving time, talents, presence, and love with a cheerful heart. You’ll hear a real-life story of three children who shoveled their neighbor’s driveway after a New England snowstorm, discover a surprising fact that most charitable giving comes from adults over 45 (so the next generation has a big role to play!), and learn why Jesus says giving is better than getting.

👂 Listen closely—there’s a quiz at the end to test what you remember!

💡 Family Challenge: choose one way this week to give cheerfully as a family—help a neighbor, share toys, or simply spend time with someone who’s lonely.

  • S2E7 Forgiveness
    2025/11/03

Season 2, Episode 7 – Forgiving in the Light

In this episode of Lantern Kids, Pastor Jay shares how forgiveness sets our hearts free. There are two kinds of forgiveness every person needs:

1️⃣ God forgiving us—freely given to all who believe in Jesus.

    2️⃣ Us forgiving others—even when it’s hard.

    Bible Verse (NIV)

Ephesians 4:32 — “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”

    Bible Story

Jesus told the Parable of the Unforgiving Servant (Matthew 18:21–35). A king forgave a servant an enormous debt, but that servant refused to forgive someone who owed him only a little. The story reminds us: God forgives, so we really should be able to forgive others.

Family Challenge – Confession & Forgiveness Circle

Gather as a family. Begin with a short prayer thanking God for His forgiveness.

Then each person can say something like, “Mom, I’m sorry for the time I broke your vase,” or “Brother, I’m sorry for yelling yesterday.”

After each confession, the other person responds, “I forgive you.”

End by thanking Jesus for His perfect forgiveness.

Season 2, Episode 6 – Peace in the Light

In this episode of Lantern Kids, Pastor Jay shares how Jesus gives us peace even when life feels scary.

    Bible Verse (ESV)

John 14:27 — “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.”

    Story

Pastor Jay tells about a time at age sixteen when he was unexpectedly asked to preach to teens in a city jail. His heart was anxious until the moment he began speaking—when Jesus filled him with calm. It’s a true example of the peace Jesus promises.

    Family Activity – Peace Jar

Find a jar or small box and call it your Peace Jar. Whenever someone in the family feels worried, write a short prayer on a slip of paper and place it inside. Later in the week, open the jar together, thank Jesus for His peace, and pray over those requests.

  • S2E5 Courage
    2025/10/29

Season 2, Episode 5 – Courage in the Light

In this episode of Lantern Kids, Pastor Jay reminds us that Jesus gives us courage when we feel afraid.

    Bible Verse (NIRV)

Joshua 1:9 — “Here is what I am commanding you to do. Be strong and brave. Do not be afraid. Do not lose hope. I am the Lord your God. I will be with you everywhere you go.”

Courage isn’t the absence of fear—it’s trusting God’s presence more than whatever scares us. Whether it’s meeting new friends, speaking in class, or facing a big change, we can be strong and brave because Jesus is always with us.

    Story

Pastor Jay shares the story of Queen Esther, who risked her life to save her people. Though she felt afraid, Esther trusted God and chose courage—and God used her brave choice to rescue His people.

    Practical Application

Think of a time this week when you might need courage—trying out for a team, standing up for a friend, or doing the right thing when others don’t. Whisper a prayer: “Jesus, help me be strong and brave,” and remember His promise to go with you everywhere.

    Family Challenge

Create a Courage Calendar for the week. Each day, write one thing each family member trusted God to help them with—big or small. At week’s end, read the list together and thank God for every time He gavecouragee.

Season 2, Episode 3 – Patience in the Light

In this episode of Lantern Kids, Pastor Jay helps children see that patience is waiting with trust instead of complaining.

    Bible Verse

Galatians 5:22 — “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness…”

    Devotional Thought

Patience shows that we believe God’s timing is perfect. The Holy Spirit helps us wait with hope and calm hearts, even when it’s hard to keep waiting.

  • S2E1 Trusting Jesus
    2025/10/20

Season 2, Episode 10: Trusting Jesus

Season 2 of Lantern Kids begins! Pastor Jay opens the Walking in the Light series by exploring what it means to start our journey of faith with Jesus.

    Bible Verses

John 1:7 — “He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe.”

John 1:12 — “Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.”

    Story

Pastor Jay shares how Jesus walked on the water and invited Peter to do the same. Peter began well, but when he looked at the storm instead of Jesus he started to sink. This true story reminds us that trusting Jesus can be hard, but when we keep our eyes on Him, anything is possible—even walking on water.

    Family Challenge

Create a “faith chain.” Cut colored paper into strips and write on each strip something you want to trust Jesus with—a worry, a dream, or a friend in need. Link the strips together and hang the chain where everyone can see it. Each time you walk by, remember Peter on the water and thank Jesus for helping you keep your eyes on Him.
