In this Radio Caracol interview, immigration attorney Martha Arias explains the Supreme Court’s birthright citizenship ruling and what it means for immigrant families.
The Court held that children born in the United States to parents who are undocumented or temporarily present are citizens at birth under the Fourteenth Amendment. Martha also explains an important point for parents: a U.S. citizen child does not automatically give immigration status or protection to the parents. A U.S. citizen generally must be at least 21 years old to petition for a parent, and every case should be reviewed individually.
