It was his authority to do with what he needed to do.

Jesus possesses all authority and commissions His followers to do and operate in His name.

He turned around and gave you and I the power.

“Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”

Luke 10:19

Jesus explicitly gives authority over the works of the enemy.

Authority as Children of God

“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God…”

John 1:12

It takes authority to become a son of God. You MUST have been given the power to become a son of God! You can’t become one on your own!
