  • Episode 6: Defining and Building Emotional Resilience
    2025/12/02

    Welcome back to Kachumar.

In this relatively shorter episode, we’ll begin our discussion on building emotional resilience by defining what emotional resilience means. This definition draws from my personal experiences with emotions and various readings on the subject over the years.

The definition I present here is simple and pragmatic, leading us naturally to techniques for building resilience. Rather than taking an academic approaches, I have relied on practical observations to define the nature and operations of emotions.

I also want to share a personal admission: I approach discussions about emotions from a place of vulnerability rather than strength. I tend to be more emotionally sensitive than others, and this heightened sensitivity has driven my interest in learning techniques to regulate emotions. Learning and regularly practicing emotional resilience techniques has allowed me to function better, something that wasn’t always possible for me early on. While I still struggle at times, I find it much easier to cope with the help of my emotional regulation routines.

The techniques we will explore in these episodes can particularly benefit those who consider themselves emotionally sensitive, but they can also be useful for everyone, as they will help us all build emotional muscles, preparing us for challenges when they arise.

I hope you find value in this episode. Let’s get started.

  • Episode 5: Minimalism for Building Personal Resilience
    2025/11/03

This episode explains minimalism as a practical approach to enhancing personal resilience. In our hyper-consumer society, embracing simplicity can often feel countercultural and challenging. However, minimalism creates valuable space in our lives, allowing us to do more, experience more, and ultimately improve our overall quality of life.

Utilizing the 80:20 rule, the episode emphasises that 20 percent of our efforts yield 80 percent of the results. It challenges the necessity of investing the remaining 80 percent of our efforts for only marginal returns, advocating instead for a focus on high-impact activities in other areas of life that can lead to a more balanced and fulfilling life. Minimalism promotes the idea of focusing on less to achieve more, often encapsulated in the phrase “less is more.”

Three key aspects of minimalism are explored in detail to foster a deeper understanding of its application in everyday life. The minimalism of work is discussed for prioritising fewer projects and activities, allowing for deep work and flow states that result in higher-quality, more meaningful output. The minimalism of possessions is covered confronting the culture of impulsive buying and hyper-commercialization, offering practical strategies to avoid unnecessary consumption. Lastly, the minimalism of socialization is examined within the South Asian context, where limiting social commitments can be particularly challenging. The episode advocates for investing more time in a smaller number of meaningful relationships rather than spreading oneself too thin across numerous low-value connections.

By concentrating on these three areas, the episode presents minimalism not merely as a lifestyle choice but as a resilience strategy for cultivating a richer, more balanced, and intentional life. The minimalist techniques demonstrated in these areas will also assist individuals in adopting similar principles across other important facets of life, leading to a more fulfilling and higher-quality existence, as opposed to a lopsided such as life that prioritizes career at the expense of other pursuits or focuses solely on enjoyment without contributing meaningfully to society.
