Welcome to today’s Bible study.
In this episode of Judges 20 (KJV), we continue our verse-by-verse journey through the book of Judges as the tribes of Israel unite to respond to the wickedness committed at Gibeah. This chapter highlights justice, the consequences of sin, seeking God's guidance, and the cost of civil conflict.
The chapter begins with the tribes of Israel gathering before the Lord to hear the Levite's account of the events at Gibeah. When the tribe of Benjamin refuses to surrender the guilty men, the nation prepares for war against their fellow Israelites.
Although Israel seeks the Lord, they suffer two painful defeats before humbling themselves through weeping, fasting, and offering sacrifices. God then grants them victory, and the army of Benjamin is defeated after a carefully planned battle.
The chapter concludes with the destruction of many Benjamite cities, leaving the tribe nearly wiped out and demonstrating the devastating consequences of sin, stubbornness, and civil war.
Through this chapter, we see key lessons about the seriousness of sin, the importance of seeking God with humility, the necessity of justice, and the tragic consequences of rebellion and conflict.
Together, we will study this chapter verse by verse, exploring its historical context, theological depth, and spiritual lessons about justice, repentance, obedience, humility, and God's righteous judgment.
