  • Ep 412 Mark Bulka - Five Time World Sailing Champion - Lessons from the Top
    2025/12/01
Five World Championships, fifteen Australian Championships, fifty plus State Championships and countless international and local podiums on all manner of yachts. I can say without exaggeration that my special guest, Mark Bulka, from the Mornington Peninsula in Australia, knows a thing or two about winning yacht races.

Mark is well known in sailing circles, but not so much is known about him.
In this podcast, we get behind the person, talk about his background, his passion for sailing and his formula for winning on the international stage multiple times.

This podcast was recorded in front of a live audience at the Sandringham Yacht Club at an event put on by the Australian RS Aero Class Association. The audience contained several world, national and state champions, and you will hear Mark reference them as a hat tip to those who inspire and push him to be better.
Mark was also keen in this session to explain his concepts and ideas to those new to yacht racing, whether they be in youth sailing (Mark's kids are racing now) or adults keen to learn more in a new sport. As it is a live podcast, we did have some audience interaction with Mark and Martin Kudnig talking about overseas regatta's. Martin is the former Commodore of Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron and a passionate sailor in the RS Aero and J70 Class.
I hope you enjoy this podcast with Mark, who has so much to offer and will be winning races for many years to come.
Apart from a busy sailing calendar Mark works as a Yacht Broker, and you can find him at 38 Degree Yacht Sales on LinkedIn and on Instagram @markbulka

  • Ep 411 Tony Mowbray - Author Never, Ever Give In, Solo World Sailor, Adventurer
    2025/11/03
Dream.Think.Talk.Commit. This is Tony Mowbray's formula for Thinking Big and achieving Possibilities. Tony has sailed singlehanded around the world, circumnavigated Australia, done numerous Sydney-Hobart races and numerous other long-distance sailing events.
He is a frequent visitor to the Antarctic by yacht.
Tony is also a man of action. In this podcast, we discuss how Tony, from a non sailing family, got involved in sailing at a young age, the power of mentors and people who believe in you, balancing passions with family life and so much more.

We also discuss in depth his experience in the ill-fated 1998 Sydney-Hobart yacht race, where he and his crew came close to losing their lives. It is the most compelling account of that race I have read and I have read a lot about that race.
His lessons here on decision making, leadership, and his crews will to live and survive despite injury and a formidable opponent in the ocean is compelling, and we discuss this in depth.

Tony's new book, "Never, Ever Give In" is a must read for anyone wanting to do things that seem impossible at first. He truly embraces the mindset, skillset and toolset concept I talk about to accomplish incredible things.
You can order Tony's book (20 plus years in the making) and find out more about Tony at https://www.tonymowbray.com.au/ and connect with him on LinkedIn.
Tony is also a fabulous speaker, so consider having him along to your next corporate event.

Matthew Lumsden is my special guest on this August 2025 It's All Possible Podcast. Matthew a lawyer by profession is the author of "Shibui, The Persimmon Principles" his book on the Japanese Culture of Shibui. Matthew and I met during his days as a global leader at the Australian arm of global investment firm Vanguard and we have stayed connected ever since.
Matthew has been passionate about Japanese culture and their way of life for many years which led him during his high school years to spend time living with a Japanese family as part of an exhange program and later working in Japan.
In typical Matthew style, he spent time back in Japan recently researching for this incredible book, Shibui.
Matthew is a person of possibility through and through. This means he is human and on his way to discovering his purpose he pushed the limit career wise which ended up in burn out and the internal conversation of "am I living my true purpose". It was this burn out that led to the breakthrough of Matthew going back to his passions and writing the book Shibui.
In this podcast Matthew opens up about how he has used the concepts of Shibui to shape his personal and business life. He also openly discusses his journey to burn out and how we can fall into the traps of a driven life and what to do to ensure we come out of it in a better position.
We then discuss the essential elements of Shibui which are Simplicity, Subtlety, Impermanence and Imperfection and how they can be applied to our personal and business lives.
I hope you enjoy Matthew and the concepts of Shibui. Shibui is available online and at all good bookshops and Matthew can be found on LinkedIn , Instagram and Tik Tok and at https://www.shibuiadvisory.com/
