  • Tomer Peretz & The 8 Project
    2026/04/08

Tomer Peretz is an award-winning Israeli-American conceptual artist, born in Jerusalem and based in Los Angeles. His style is defined by figurative storytelling and realism, illuminated by the belief that beauty often reveals itself through darkness, in the cracks, the erasures, and the fragments that make us human. Layered paint, texture, and deliberate distortion uncover what lies beneath the surface, inviting viewers into the tension between vulnerability and strength.

The 8 Project is a creative healing initiative founded by Israeli-American artist Tomer Peretz following the events of October 7. It supports Israeli soldiers and trauma survivors coping with PTSD through a structured, art-based therapeutic residency program while actively engaging Jewish communities across the United States.
Based in Los Angeles and New York, The 8 Project operates through three interconnected pillars:

    • Therapeutic Artist Residency Program: structured environment where participants engage in daily creative practice alongside artist-mentors and mental health professionals, rebuilding stability, identity, and purpose through discipline and art.
    • Creative Workshops:hands-on experiences led by artists from the residency program, hosted in synagogues, schools, and community spaces. These workshops bring communities into direct connection with the artists while strengthening solidarity and sustaining the program.
    • The 8 Exhibit:
    • a curated collection of original works created by Tomer Peretz in collaboration with more than 1,800 survivors of the war, alongside works by artists from the residency program. Presented in gallery spaces and public venues, The 8 Exhibit transforms individual stories into collective memory and cultural dialogue.

Through partnerships with museums, schools, and public institutions, The 8 Project continues to expand its impact, building a sustainable model where healing, artistic excellence, and community engagement move together.

In October 2023, while visiting Israel, Tomer volunteered in the aftermath of the Hamas attacks, assisting in the recovery and dignified handling of more than 200 bodies and body parts. This life-altering experience reshaped his artistic mission and led him to found The 8 Project, a nonprofit that supports survivors in rebuilding their lives through creativity, community, and shared resilience.
A former combat soldier and officer in a special forces unit, Tomer has long relied on art as a grounding force and a way to reconnect with meaning and purpose. After relocating to Los Angeles, he built a successful international career, exhibiting across the U.S., Europe, and Israel.

  • Melanit Gal - Art as Witness in the Aftermath of October 7th
    2026/02/11

After October 7, I felt a strong urge to document everything that happened—the protests, the rallies, and the Nova survivors in painting therapy and in studio sessions.

From this journey, the exhibition “From Victims to Victory” was born. From my position here in the U.S., I realized I was processing the trauma differently. I experience it not as an
isolated event, but as part of a larger puzzle of the Jewish people.

I chose to be the voice of the survivors, those who are currently focused on healing and hope.

I chose to create art about a historic event in the life of the Jewish people.

I chose it because I am proudly Jewish.

I chose it because I am proudly Israeli.
