このコンテンツについて
North Carolina State Treasurer Brad Briner ’99 joined scholar host Stella Smolowitz ’26 to discuss his new role managing the state’s financial assets and the broader economic landscape of North Carolina. Brad also shares how his experiences as a Morehead-Cain Scholar led him to his career in finance and public service. He offers insights into how North Carolina’s financial processes compare to other states; the importance of long-term fiscal stewardship; and best practices for managing his 400-person team. Brad assumed office in January 2025.
The conversation also explores his take on healthcare spending; what went into choosing the health plan for over 750,000 state employees; and how data-driven decision-making plays a key role in his approach. Brad reflects on his time at UNC–Chapel Hill, his path to public leadership, and how young people can make an impact in both the private and public sectors.
