In this episode I sit down with Gemma Kelly, a women’s wellness and breathwork coach. Gemma shares how her own experience of health anxiety after finding a breast lump led her to discover box breathing, which then sparked a deep dive into breathwork training and daily practice.
We talk about how breath awareness is such a foundational tool for regulating the nervous system, helping shift the body from a state of fear into safety, and how you can use those small “in-between” moments like driving or waiting to actually practise this in real life.
Gemma explains the benefits of nasal breathing and how mouth breathing can be linked to stress, snoring, and reduced oxygenation. We also touch on the fact that some breath-hold techniques can feel triggering, especially for those with trauma, asthma, or past breathing-related experiences, and why it’s so important to work with trauma-informed, qualified facilitators in what is currently an unregulated space.
Gemma also shares her “Capacity Reset” 12-week process, which combines stabilisation, nervous system regulation, movement, nutrition, and breathwork, along with details about her breathwork sessions and her Capacity Podcast.
