  • The Week in AI: The Great Reality Check
    2026/03/01

This week in AI wasn't about new models or benchmark announcements. It was about the messy, expensive, politically complicated reality of what happens when autonomous agents start doing real work inside real organizations — and real governments start paying attention.

We cover the Pentagon's move to designate Anthropic a supply chain risk, President Trump's order halting federal use of the product, and OpenAI's Sam Altman securing a defense deal by promising hardened technical safeguards. The fracture between Silicon Valley's safety-first culture and Washington's operational demands is now the defining fault line in the industry.

We break down the SaaSpocalypse in concrete terms: ServiceNow automating 90% of internal IT requests, Perplexity launching a $200/month autonomous Computer agent, and Jack Dorsey cutting 40% of Block's workforce while explicitly crediting AI efficiency. Marc Benioff named it. This week it showed up on earnings calls.

On hardware, Meta threw a $100 billion punch at Nvidia's dominance by shifting capital toward AMD. Samsung and Google made AI a mandatory spec for the Galaxy S26. MatX raised $500 million to challenge the GPU status quo with specialized silicon.

AT&T proved the efficiency mandate is real — 8 billion tokens a day, costs down 90%. And Anthropic alleged that DeepSeek, Moonshot, and MiniMax used 24,000 fake accounts to scrape Claude's outputs. The data wars just got ugly.

  • When Bots Became the Boss | This Week in AI: Feb 15–22, 2026
    2026/02/23

India commits $210 billion to sovereign AI infrastructure while the West is still fighting permit hearings. Claude Sonnet 4.6 drops AI costs 80% overnight. Microsoft Copilot exposes confidential emails through a RAG permission failure. And we close with Rent-A-Human — a live marketplace where autonomous AI agents post jobs and pay humans to complete them via crypto wallet. This is the McGauley Labs Deep Dive: no hype, just what actually happened and what it means. Source material aggregated at mcgauleylabs.news.
