In the fall of 2007, Luna drove through a stretch of Vermont that no longer appears on any map. She stopped at the Red-Light Motel on old Route 9 because her car's temperature gauge spiked and she needed water. The motel looked like it had been closed for ten years, but a light was on in the office and a man named Ellis rented her room 12 for cash—no credit card, no license. That night, she heard something crawling through the walls, not mice or wiring. The next morning, Ellis asked if she'd slept well, and when she lied and said yes, he smiled and said, 'Good. Some folks don't.' She left fast, but her rearview mirror showed Ellis standing in the road, watching her go, and the motel sign flickered even though the power pole was down. Weeks later, she looked up the motel online. It never existed. The address on her receipt was a field of milkweed. This episode is about that place, that night, and the sound of something hollow scratching from inside the walls.
