What’s the difference between a job, a career, and a calling?
In this solo episode of Beyond the Therapy Room, we explore the different ways work can show up in our lives—and why we don’t have to expect one job to fulfil our entire purpose.
A job can give us income, stability, structure and security. A career can bring growth, mastery and a deeper sense of contribution. And then there’s a calling—a deeper pull towards something that brings meaning, creativity, service and a sense that we’re contributing to something beyond ourselves.
But a calling isn’t always a job, and it doesn’t mean everything suddenly becomes easy or that we’re constantly feeling passionate.
Sometimes our calling shows up alongside our work. Sometimes it evolves through different seasons of life. And sometimes we only become gradually more aware of what keeps calling us forward.
So what keeps drawing your attention? What gives you a sense of aliveness? What keeps breaking your heart? And where are your gifts meeting the needs of others?
Maybe purpose isn’t something we have to manufacture. Maybe it’s something we’re learning to listen for.
