Framed as a job interview with a Guardian played by Laura Linney, we finally get the full picture of how John became a Green Lantern candidate, and it's a lot more unsettling than we expected. We're covering John Sr.'s failed test with the Guardians and how his fear cost him the ring, Bernadette's furious response and the deal she strikes to give her infant son a shot instead, and the disturbing lengths John's parents go to raise him fearless. We're also getting into the apple-on-the-head scene finally getting context, the military incident where Hal unknowingly destroys John's career, and that tense final confrontation between the two of them that raises real questions about whether Hal even wants John as backup.
