This week we sit down with Scott Steer, a martial artist, Army veteran, and founder of Veterans Grappling.
Hailing from Phillip Island, Victoria, Scott has built an impressive martial arts résumé as a Judo black belt, Master of Sambo, and a 4-stripe BJJ blue belt. A lifelong athlete and self-confessed jack of all trades when it comes to sport, Scott shares his passion for martial arts and the lessons he’s learned along the way.
Beyond the mats, Scott served with 6RAR and completed deployments to both Afghanistan and Iraq. He opens up about his experiences in the military, the challenges of transitioning to civilian life, and the mental health struggles many veterans face after service.
After leaving the Army and searching for purpose, Scott founded Veterans Grappling, a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to supporting veterans and first responders. Through martial arts, structure, and community, Veterans Grappling provides an outlet for those navigating life after service.
This is a powerful conversation about resilience, purpose, mental health, and the positive impact that martial arts can have on people’s lives.
