概要

 October 1987. The 11:40 PM bus from Greenfield to Meridian Hollow runs a route that should take forty-seven minutes. But when the driver picks up a woman at the Ash Creek stop—a woman he recognizes from the week before, wearing the same coat, asking for the same fare—the night begins to fold in on itself. He counts her among the passengers, then counts again. He watches her reflection in the rearview, but she is never where she should be. Every mile the bus travels, the road lengthens. Every turn, the dark outside the windows looks older, less like asphalt and more like memory. The other passengers grow quiet, then still, then something worse. And when the driver finally reaches Meridian Hollow, the bus doors open onto a town that was never there. This is a story about a man who drove the same road too many times, and one night the road drove back.
