概要

In the summer of 2003, Luna's cousin Ellie took the 11:40 p.m. bus out of Denton, Texas—a route that ran along Goodnight Road, past the old cement plant and the burned-out motel. She was seventeen, running from a fight with her mother, and she planned to sleep at Luna's apartment. But the bus never arrived. Three days later, the police found her backpack on a bench at the dead-end loop where Goodnight Road turns to gravel and stops. Inside was a notebook, a lighter, and a Polaroid of a woman standing on the side of the road—a woman Ellie had drawn in her margins for years. Luna went looking. She found the bus driver, a man named Harlan who still ran the route even though no one rode it. He told her about the woman who boards every night, sits in the back, never speaks, never leaves. And about the passengers who disappear. This is a story about the road that swallows people, about a cousin who saw something she shouldn't have, and about a photograph that proves the dead are still waiting for a ride home.
