Little Boy Blue is an eight-year-old boy with golden curls who lives in a cottage by the river with his widowed mother. When his mother falls ill and their money runs out, the boy bravely asks the local Squire for work. He is hired as a shepherd, dressed in a special blue suit, and given a silver horn to manage the sheep and cows. One evening, his mother breaks her leg after slipping on wet grass, and the boy spends the entire night nursing her and fetching a doctor. The next morning, exhausted from his vigil, he accidentally falls asleep against a haystack while on duty. This allows the animals to wander into the Squire's forbidden corn and meadows. Although the Squire is initially angry, his daughter Maj discovers the boy's selfless reason for falling asleep. Moved by his devotion, the Squire and Maj provide a nurse and a better home for the family. Little Boy Blue continues to work faithfully for many years, proving that a loving heart and hard work lead to lasting luck and friendship.
