概要

 Christmas Eve, 1989. Luna's mother sends her to Sutter's Crossing, a tiny Mississippi Delta town, to deliver a fruitcake to an aunt she barely knows. Snow falls on cotton fields, and the highway ends at a dirt road lined with cypress trees. The aunt's house is a whitewashed shotgun with a kerosene lamp in the window and the smell of boiled peanuts. But in the backyard, past the pecan grove, stands a Christmas tree that wasn't there the night before. Luna's aunt says she didn't put it up. She says it appears every year on the 24th and disappears by dawn. And this year, for the first time, Luna hears what it sounds like when the tree moves. A quiet, dragging scrape. The bell on the door. The dog that won't stop watching. A story about the things that mark us, whether we want them to or not.
