概要

October 1987, in the low hills outside Fetter's Gap, New Hampshire. Luna visits an old friend who has inherited her grandmother's apple orchard — a place where every autumn the trees hold too many apples, and every night the kitchen window looks out on a tree that wasn't there the day before. The grandmother's rules are simple: never pick from the center tree, never leave a ladder in the orchard after dark, and never, ever light a candle at midnight in the east-facing bedroom. Her friend broke the rules, one by one, and now Luna is standing in the kitchen watching that tree inch closer.
