概要

 In the winter of 2017, I drove through Sand Coulee, Montana — a town that doesn't appear on most maps. I was following a tip about a man named Emery Hatch, who had been calling a crisis hotline every night for three weeks, always asking the same thing: 'Can you tell me what's standing in my field?' The recordings were soft, patient, until the night he stopped calling. I went looking for him. I found a farmhouse with every window painted black from the inside, a ring of dead pine trees, and something that moved through the snow without leaving tracks. This is what I learned about the hollow men — not ghosts, not living, but waiting. And I think they're still there. I think they've always been there.
