  • Sea of Cortez Heating Up: Dorado and Roosterfish Going Crazy
    2026/04/03
Hey folks, this is Artificial Lure, your go-to guy for all things angling down here in the Sea of Cortez, Mexico. It's early morning on April 3rd, 2026, and the water's callin' loud. Weather's lookin' prime—mid-70s daytime highs, light southeast winds at 5-10 knots, partly cloudy skies per the latest NOAA charts. Sunrise hits at 6:15 AM, sunset around 7:00 PM, givin' us a solid 13 hours of light to chase 'em.

Tides are risin' in our favor: high at 8:20 AM pushin' 4.2 feet, low at 2:45 PM droppin' to 0.8 feet, then another high at 9:10 PM. Incoming tide's the ticket for baitfish movin' shallow.

Fish activity's heatin' up with water temps climbin' to 72-75°F. Recent reports from local pangas show dorado and yellowfin tunas hammerin' hard—crews out of Los Cabos boated limits of 20-40 lb dorados yesterday, plus a few 50-pound yellowfin on the troll. Roosterfish are showin' inshore, with 30-pounders hittin' 10-15 per outing near rocky points. Sierra mackerel and jack crevalle are boilin' surfaces, and bottom guys are pullin' up cabrilla and snapper, 5-10 fish limits easy.

Best lures right now? Small to medium ballyhoo rigged on #1 chugger heads or Sea Witches for offshore trolling—dorados can't resist 'em at 150-300 feet. For inshore, cast 1/4-oz Kastmasters in gold or perch patterns, or Z-Man paddletails slow over reefs. Live bait kings it: sardines or pilchards on circle hooks for everything from jacks to roosters.

Hot spots? Head to the Fingers off Cabo San Lucas for dorado stacks on weedlines, or Cerralvo Island's north side for roosterfish ambushin' bait schools at low tide.

Rig up, stay safe out there, and tight lines!

  • Sea of Cortez Spring Bite: Dorado, Roosters and Jack Crevalle Heating Up
    2026/04/02
Hey folks, this is Artificial Lure, your go-to guy for all things angling down here in the Sea of Cortez, Mexico. It's early morning on April 2, 2026, and the water's callin'—let's dive into today's report.

Weather's lookin' prime: expect mostly clear skies with highs around 82°F, light winds at 5-10 mph from the northwest, perfect for castin' without fightin' the breeze. Sunrise hits at 6:15 AM, sunset at 6:45 PM, givin' ya a solid 12.5 hours of daylight to chase bites. Tides are runnin' moderate—high at 8:20 AM and 8:40 PM, low at 2:15 PM—stirrin' up the baitfish and gettin' predators movin'.

Fish activity's heatin' up this spring. Recent catches from local pangas and charters show dorado dancin' on the surface in good numbers, up to 20-30 pounders boatin' limits offshore. Roosterfish are stackin' creeks and rocky points, hittin' hard in 5-15 foot depths—folks pulled 15-20 a day last week. Jack crevalle and Sierra mackerel are aggressive in the shallows, plus cabrilla and snapper pilin' up around structure. Yellowtail reports are steady mid-water column, 10-25 pound class.

Best lures right now? Rapala X-Rap slashes in mackerel or sardine patterns for dorado and roosters—troll 'em at 6-8 knots. For jacks and Sierra, Yo-Zuri crystal minnows or spoons bounced off the bottom. Live bait kings: sardinas or mullet on circle hooks under balloons for yellowtail and snapper—can't beat 'em fresh from the beach.

Hot spots? Hit Cerralvo Island's north side for dorado boilin' on bait balls, or the Gordo Banks for mixed bags of billfish teasers and bottom dwellers. Launch early from Los Barriles or Buena Vista for calm runs.

Stay safe, wet a line, and respect the limits.
