There's power in our experiences. On "I Live This," you'll hear why these experiences can drive change, foster connection, and - ultimately - transform the way we look at mental health.

"I Live This: Transforming Mental Health through Personal Connection" explores the way people draw on their living experience to support others, innovate, and advocate for change. Through a partnership between the Massachusetts Association for Mental Health (MAMH) and the Kiva Centers, this series invites you to hear from those with living experience, learn about the different ways that individuals provide peer support in their work, and better understand the value of personal connection.

Tune in each week during May is Mental Health Month for a new episode. We'll be discussing the intersection of mental health and a variety of topics, like hoarding conditions (and why that terminology is problematic), the history of peer support, the criminal legal system, anxiety, race, body image, houselessness, the sexual and reproductive health of LGBTQ+ people, and more.

    Follow Yvonne Castañeda on her journey of recovery, rewriting the mental health narrative, and holding space for counselors and therapists who need support on this week's episode of "I Live This."

    Yvonne is a licensed clinical social worker, part time faculty member and Director of Community-Based Initiatives at Boston College School of Social work, and author of “Pork Belly Tacos with a Side of Anxiety.” In this conversation, we discuss why there's no such thing as a perfect therapist, how to support mental health professionals, how to trust in your truth, and more from her novel and overall experiences.
