  • It's All Tied Up in Sports and BTS
    2024/10/04

In this episode (recorded around 1.5 years ago), Sophia talks with Clarissa about the power of burlesque, being onstage, being queer in corporate America, intersections of being mixed race and queer, and being poc in leadership for clubs at predominantly white institutions :). We are chugging through the backlog y’all, maybe one day I will record new episodes. I let the perfect get in the way of the good and the result is good episodes with many months wait in between. Thanks for bearing with me through it all.

  • Aren't We Just a Collection of the People We Know and Love?
    2024/05/08

In this episode, Sophia talks with Anya about the intricacies of family dynamics that fall outside of the cultural norm, reconciling personal identity with having queer parents, bisexuality and why we do and do not want to talk about it, not entirely relating to the experiences of your queer friends, and Snail Mail. Yikes, this episode was recorded 2 years ago!! Plus side of that is that you get to hear a lot of Anya’s reflections on what she said two years later. We both acknowledge that our thinking has evolved a lot since we spoke.

  • It Takes a While to Act the Way You Feel Inside
    2024/02/01

In this episode (recorded around a year ago), Sophia talks with Paul about the awkwardness of coming out to your friends who always thought you were gay, trials, and tribulations of the gay dating world, the Boston queer bubble, the toxicity of queer online discourse, and friends to lovers vs. lovers to friends. Plus Paul educates Sophia on Grindr and Sniffies.

The hiatus between this episode and the next will hopefully not be nearly as long. Also I've given up on episodes under an hour! They are gonna be long, deal with it.

  • A Form of Love That Can't Be Traded For Anything
    2023/08/28

In this episode, Sophia talks with Malika about the intentionality of queerness as a politic, prioritizing platonic intimacy, dating white people, and how revolutionary it is to be joyous in a world that doesn’t always accept you and all of your facets.

If you are interested in hearing more from Malika (and I guarantee you will after listening) here is where to find them:

For reading Malika’s essays and just their general vibes. Highhhly recommend following if you want to read/listen to some great writing: linktr.ee/thefairygodfemme

And Malika just started a new grassroots anti-capitalist org (they keep busy) called Bartering Babes, here is more info about that: linktr.ee/barteringbabes

As you can probably tell, this was my first attempt at virtual recording. Hoping to make the process better in the future so audio will be better. Shoutout to Malika for being a good sport and rerecording some sections of this!

  • You Might Never Find Definitive Answers About Your Gender, You Probably Won't
    2023/08/14

In this episode, Sophia and Wiley discuss gender, misconceptions surrounding trans narratives, the evolution of identity, whether queer and trans people need mainstream media representation, existing nebulously, fruity drinks, and queer gender roles. Recorded in the summer of 2022, listen for updates from Wiley in 2023.

Also I have (Soph) personally done a lot of reflecting on gender since this convo around a year ago, it is so interesting to listen back and hear how I was thinking about gender. I feel like I’m just beginning to understand it, which means I’m probably about to learn something new that turns everything on its head again.

  • The Most Relatable Part of Heartstopper is the Am I Gay Quiz
    2023/07/16

In this episode, Sophia and Maya discuss a number of important things, including bisexuality, are girls just pretty or are we attracted to them, how having queer friends before identifying as queer can be confusing, and the importance of media representation. This is another one that was recorded in the summer of 2022, so listen for some updates from 2023 Maya.

  • Being Interested in Who We Really Are is a Form of Us Loving Each Other
    2023/07/07

In the inaugural episode of the pod, Sophia and Adele discuss coming out narratives in media, how being queer informs one's worldview, being nonbinary, and significant google searches. If you like what they had to say, we've got more Adele content, never fear! We can’t cover it all in an hour.

I’m going to be releasing these out of order from how I recorded them which I hope doesn’t make it too confusing. Also we recorded this episode in the summer of 2022 so it’s been like a year since then! In case you were wondering why we talk about Heartstopper and the orange line being on fire. There is also a transcript but it's autogenerated so I might try to edit it at some point. Finally huuuuge thank you to everyone who encouraged me to make this happen, it's been a long time coming and I hope you enjoy the ride.

Media recs from this episode include: speculative fiction as a genre. Adele and I both like The Dispossessed by Ursula K. Le Guin.
